Random Doujinshi Volume One

As you're probably already aware, considering you're reading this blog and this post, Japan is a rather special country. A quick youtube search will unearth a myriad of videos about strange things here. Among one of them is the manga "world", with basically any premise imaginable having at least a couple of manga about them. Giants, ninja, zombie fish... you name it.

That being said, even inside this world, there are some pretty strange stories. And so, I figured I'd talk about some weird/funny/interesting doujinshi I've bought during my time in Japan. It's probably possible to find a few of them scanlated in English, but chances are that some aren't really available or are just too hard to find. Either way, I won't spoil much so don't worry (not like there's too much to spoil on a doujinshi though...)
Without further delay, here's the 3 I'll be talking about:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Girls & SCP

Circle: ほっぺ食堂

This first one is my most recent purchase and I don't think I need to explain why:  Girls und Panzer/SCP Foundation crossover? They got me at the cover, which is pretty cool as you can see.

This doujinshi is basically an intro guide into the whole SCP lore, given by the 5 main girls of Garupan. From object classes, containment protocols, D-class personnel, etc... to suggestions on how to find interesting articles or the organization of each one; they are all covered in the story. If you're already familiar with the SCP you won't get too much new info, but the explanations themselves are pretty entertaining. Talking about entertaining, the girls also imagine themselves interacting with several SCP objects, so you get to know a few interesting ones as well. Hana didn't seem to be too concerned (more like quite happy) with SCP-871 for example...

エロマンガ撫子 (Eromanga Nadeko)

Circle: OVERALL

Not recent by any means, but with Eromanga Sensei being aired right now (go watch/read it!) I remembered I got this doujinshi some years ago.
I'm a very big fan of the Monogatari series (go watch/read it too!), so it doesn't take much to get me to buy stuff, but I do try to have some self-restraint. That being said, the spoof cover and title made me take out my wallet even before I took a look inside. Picking up during the events of Koimonogatari, Kaiki discovers the secret Nadeko has been hiding in her closet... except instead of love comedies, she's actually been drawing yaoi doujinshi! Rather than being a god, she decides to try her best to make her debut at Comiket, but just how well will that go? Despite the name and premise, this doujinshi is fairly tame as far as images go, although the same can't be said about Nadeko's thoughts...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ヴ団地 (Apartment Complex V)

Circle: 里好

Horror, elementary schoolgirls, ランドセル, and twin-tails... it didn't take me too much deliberation to buy this last doujinshi. As you can tell by the panels above, even compared to the previous two, this one is strange. In reality... the story is even weirder than what you might expect.
The girls are drawn in a pretty cute style, which makes a great contrast with the sinister atmosphere of both the backgrounds and objects. As far as the plot goes, it's not really horror, more like a comedy; a gloriously weird one.
Want to know a bit more? Well then: A little girl finds an iron maiden in the street and brings her(?) home to keep as a pet...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's it for this post; if you're lucky enough to find any of these, buy them! I do hope you got a taste of the kind of doujinshi you can find if you look closely enough. Since there are many, many different types, I think this post will be the first one in a series of doujinshi related ones, look forward to them! And remember, don't let weird things follow you home!
